December 16, 2005

Posted by Eric Metze

LCDLA, the Lubbock Criminal District Attorney’s Office and the Lubbock County Bar Association is cosponsoring a reception honoring Alton Griffin next Thursday, December 22, 2005, at 6:00 p.m., at the Texas Tech Law School. All members of the bar are invited. Especially welcome are all those who Alton gave them their start. If you know an attorney who has relocated, please let them know of the reception. This is a great opportunity to say thanks to Alton for all he has done for us as lawyers and the inspiration he has given us as citizen warriors protecting the Constitution Alton spent 50 years defending.

Please welcome our newest member, Stan Brown of Abilene, Texas. Stan loves our website and is coming to the seminar in January. Stan has tried to organize an organization like LCDLA in Abilene so many times he says he has given up. But I told him we would help him get one going with help of TCDLA. LCDLA welcomes all criminal defense lawyers in Abilene as our sister criminal bar.

Ethics Opinions
December 8, 2005

There is an interesting ethics opinion in the most recent Texas Bar Journal: “A lawyer, who is appointed to represent a defendant in a criminal proceeding, is not permitted . . . to furnish to a court . . . a statement containing a detailed description of the lawyer’s services . . .” The opinion appears on page 1034 of the December 2005 Bar Journal.
