DA’s Changing Email Services

The DA is changing their email service effective next Friday. They are going to pretty much lose their current email address books when they do this so if anyone is waiting to hear back from one them after the change, they may want to send another email on the following Monday.

Their email addresses are not going to change.

At a previous meeting where Rusty was present where the judges were looking at revisions to the criminal local rules, it was decided that the defense attorneys would prepare judgments of not guilty. Those local rules revisions should be voted on this Friday at the Board of Judges meeting. However, we wanted to provide the state-approved form required for the judgments.

Chuck Chambers on Buddy Holly

Longtime LCDLA member Charles Chambers was featured in a front-page Lubbock Avalanche-Journal article Sunday regarding whether Buddy Holly’s name will fall into public domain in a few years. In the article, Charlie is described by Entertainment Editor William Kerns as a “legal scholar”. Victory: Ron Sanders

Ron Sanders reports a “small victory” in Lubbock County Justice Court No. 3. Not guilty jury trial on minor in consumption. Testimony from officer – defendant smelled of alcohol. Defendant – 16 year testified he did not drink. Any victory is a big victory, Ron: it is something to build upon. Good job!

Memorial for Dick Alexander

The Lubbock County Bar Association will hold a memorial service for Dick Alexander on Thursday, July 19 at 1:30 P.M. in the 137th District courtroom, third floor, Lubbock County Courthouse.

Dick Alexander, long time LCDLA member, passed away on June 29 at the age of 78. Services were held at Sunset Church of Christ Chapel on July 2. Officiating the even was Joe Garner and Russ Arendell. The internment was July 5th at Lackey Cemetery in Hichita, Oklahoma. He was a very active and important member of the organization and will be greatly missed.
